Food Bank Oct 12, 13
This week was the first day of field work for me. Before I went to the food bank, I was nervous and afraid of many things, because my English skills were not high. The tasks of this week were that I made hampers for poor people like homeless and children and that I checked food whether it is good or not. When I was making hampers, I put some food such as tomato souse, soup, beans and so on into a plastic bag. When I was checking food, I checked whether there is no mold on food.
Food Bank Oct 19th, 20th
Tasks of this weeks were to make hampers, to fill shelves and to serve food. Although there were many tasks in this week, main task was to serve food. When I served food to people, I found a lot of unknown words and food and then sometimes some customers asked me what is this food. However, I didn’t know it as well. At the moment, I learned new words and names of food with customers.
Food Bank Oct 26th, 27th
I made hampers and served food to customers as usual in this week. some customers asked me some questions as last week, then I answered their questions and solved their problems. After that, customers said to me “thank you”,”I appreciate it”. I was really happy and I felt that my English skills is getting better thorough works at the food bank.
Food Bank Nov 2nd,3rd
On Wednesday, I worked at a warehouse. In the warehouse, I made 3 different types of hampers. Single hamper was for a single, double hamper was for couples, and Family hamper was for families. I made a lot of hampers, so my boss said to me you helped me a lot. I was happy to hear that.
On Thursday, I worked at a warehouse in the morning. I made many hampers as usual. I worked at a building where I served foods for customers in the afternoon. Many customers came and I served foods. Whenever I served food to customers, they say “thank you” to me. Then, my heart got warmer and warmer. I was able to solve many problems on this day. I was happy to see many customer’s smile. I’m looking forward for next activities.
Food Bank Nov9th, 10th
In this week, I made hampers and filled shelves in the morning. After that, I served food. In this morning, I filled shelves after making hampers, because I used many stuffs like tomato souse, been and so on to make hampers. In the afternoon, I served food as usual.
Food Bank Nov16th, 17th
Tasks of this week was mainly to serve food to customers. I was getting used to serving food, so I was able to answer some customer’s questions and solve their problems. That was why many customers said to me”thank you” and “I appreciate it.” Moreover, some customers said to me “You made my day”, “thank you for volunteering, I love you because you were a hard worker.” As time passed, many customers gave me a lot of compliments. Those words always made me happy and motivated me.
Food Bank Nov23rd, 24th
On Wednesday, I made a few hampers. After that, I served food to many customers as usual. I have been busy every Wednesday. However, I was not so busy on this Wednesday, so I got a new task. That was to put food such as buns, sliced bread and sweets into each bin and to check expiry dates. That is all.
On Thursday, this day was the last field work day. That was why I was sad. However, I worked as usual. Tasks were typical tasks like serving food and making hampers. After working, my friend and I made a video of an interview with our boss. After that, my friend and I gave thank you letters to my bosses. Then, they all said they were so happy. Before I left the food bank, I took a photo with them. My experience at the food bank is one of the best memories of mine in Canada and I never forget this forever. It is my treasure.
